Kate Beckett : What is that? Javier Esposito : The rifle, that shot you. Kate Beckett : You are way out of line. Javier Esposito : Just look at it. Kate Beckett : [backing away, near tears] What the hell are you doing? Javier Esposito : I've been where you are, I know what you're going through.
Kate Beckett : Javi, I'm fine. Javier Esposito : You're not fine. You're just trying to act like you are. This is just a tool It's a hunk of steel. It has no magical powers, and the person that fired it is not some all-powerful God.
Just a guy with a gun. Just like the guy we're hunting now. And like every other bad guy, he's damaged goods. Kate Beckett : [after a long pause] So am I. Javier Esposito : That's right. And that's okay. You think it's a weakness? Make it a strength. It's a part of you So use it. Kate Beckett : No, you don't understand. I need to be okay. Carter Burke : That's not always a choice, Kate. What you're describing, hypervigilance, it's a classic symptom of post-traumatic stress disorder.
To come out of this case physically and emotionally intact, Beckett will be forced to confront one of the basic notions that always has driven her. She became a cop because of it, and she's unable to invest in a real relationship because of it. She looks at a dead body at one point, and that dead body is basically almost a mirror image of who she is and who she could've been if she didn't survive the sniper shooting.
Castle Season 4: What happens after "I love you"? Coming to terms with her own experience is the first step in what could be a relationship between Castle and Beckett. She wants to engage in the gift that is her life and engage in a gift like a relationship with Castle.
That's not going to happen overnight, but that's a new direction for her now. It's a really sweet evolution to the character, to the story and to the love story. Love your analysis on the comment Castle made about owing him coffee- I think it really was his way of almost chastising her to stop pushing him away. These two. These writers. Also, it was nice that she thanked him for keeping his distance since we know how hard that must have been for him.
It took all he had not to push and pursue her, not to at least try to comfort her, and she acknowledges that at the end. Hooray for character development and realization and growth!!
